Voting 2nd graders

Election Day wasn't just for adults! First and second-grade students at Caldwell Elementary School got a firsthand look at the democratic process through hands-on classroom elections.

In celebration of Election Day, students participated in mock elections designed to introduce them to the voting process and the importance of making their voices heard.

Second-grade students put a sweet twist on democracy by casting their votes in a cookie election, choosing between two popular favorites: Oreo and chocolate chip! Complete with voter registration cards, private voting booths, and ballots, the activity gave students an opportunity to experience the steps involved in an election while having a little fun along the way.

First-grade students also headed to the polls, lining up to enter voting booths and cast their ballots. The experience helped students become familiar with the voting process and understand how individual choices contribute to a collective decision.

Beyond the excitement of casting their votes, these activities provided valuable lessons in citizenship, decision-making, and civic responsibility.

At Caldwell ISD, learning goes beyond textbooks, and experiences like these help students connect classroom lessons to the world around them.

No matter the election results, these young Hornets walked away winners with a better understanding of democracy in action!
